I write children’s books because children are so close to this primal, fundamental love of making. I hope that my stories encourage them to pick up the thread of creative inspiration, and follow it, wherever it leads. Perhaps a young person will experience the thrill of making a new drawing, or stringing words together in a way that only she would speak, think about something he sees and reinvent it. That thrill, of re-experiencing the world through our imagination, of re-creating an experience to share with another, is, to me, an essential human experience. I hope my books, and my art, support that.
